A 13 year reunion.
The full north ridge of Mt. Stuart, car-to-car in a day. I probably should have warmed up for my first alpine rock of the season, but then again I was looking for a beautiful position in the mountains, physical exhaustion, and a feeling of personal accomplishment.
For perspective, the half ridge variant is often done as a 2-3 day trip (the bivouacs look stunning, and just *might* be worth carrying the extra weight). When I first did the full ridge, it was barely in a day (23:45). Yesterday we did it in 15:30, two-and-a-half hours faster than my partner, Dan’s, best time. Evidence of experience gained? However, some of the mutant climbers we know have sub-seven hour times.
Fast or slow, the North Ridge of Mt. Stuart is a high quality alpine climb, of moderate technical ability, on some of the best granite in Washington’s Cascade mountains. And well worth a repeat, even 13 years later.
